About The Artwork

"Canyon Raven"
Anthony Gchachu (Zuni Pueblo)
Acrylic on canvas · 4" × 4" · Signed lower right · Original, one of a kind

A raven stands on a weathered post and looks up. Far off to the right, against the turquoise sky is a second bird is already in flight. Bands of red, coral, and gold run flat across the lower field, the way a canyon holds heat after the sun has dropped, while the sky above stays cool and open.

Ravens are constant company across Zuni country and the wider Southwest as watchful, unhurried, and present at every turn of the day. This piece honors the raven's steadiness, the canyon's light, and the call from a companion already in the air.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

ANTHONY GCHACHU

An evolving Native American artist in the 21st century from Zuni Pueblo in New Mexico, Anthony Gchachu is inspired by nature, architecture and the “movement” of the world. His message to the world reflects the stories of perseverance and the journey of life.

Gchachu’s latest series, "Land of The Shalako" portrays images of deer, birds, and wildlife, signifying and honoring loved ones who were lost throughout the pandemic. The playful yet powerful scenes are depicted by using beautiful vibrant colors of red, yellow and blue brush strokes.

Capturing breathtaking views of distant mountains and forest tree lines are inspired by endless drives through forest in New Mexico. Each painting expresses emotions of joy, happiness and a vision for hope. Gchachu’s passion for painting provides a beauty in the world like no other.
